Erler Zimmer EZ-R17674 Advanced Multifunction Simulation Arm for Injections and Venous Blood Draws

The Erler Zimmer EZ-R17674 Advanced Multifunction Simulation Arm for Injections and Venous Blood Draws is an educational model designed for training in key nursing procedures involving parenteral drug administration and vascular access. It combines in a single simulator the features needed to practice intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections, as well as blood collection and infusion techniques.

The model replicates an upper limb featuring a venous network that extends from the arm to the hand, including the cephalic vein, the basilic vein, the veins of the antecubital region, the radial vein, and the ulnar vein. This configuration offers numerous access points for venipuncture, allowing students to become familiar with different anatomical sites and to develop the manual precision necessary to correctly perform intravenous procedures.

During needle insertion, the simulator provides a realistic tactile sensation of penetrating the venous wall, characterized by the typical “click” sensation felt when the needle enters the vessel. This feedback allows the operator to recognize the moment of puncture and improve control over their movements, helping them acquire the skills needed to treat patients.

One of the model’s most interesting features is the ability to adjust the pressure within the venous circuit using a piston system. By increasing or decreasing the pressure, the veins can become more prominent or collapse, simulating different conditions of vascular filling. Instructors can thus offer exercises of increasing difficulty, helping students become accustomed to locating and puncturing vessels even when they are less easily accessible.

The simulator allows users to perform blood draws using artificial blood, practice administering medications via intravenous bolus, and simulate infusion procedures. It is also possible to simulate clenching the hand into a fist and applying a tourniquet, incorporating into the exercises some of the maneuvers commonly used to facilitate the identification of peripheral veins.

In addition to intravenous training, the arm features an area for intramuscular injections in the deltoid muscle region and areas for subcutaneous injections on the palmar surface of the forearm and the lateral surface of the arm. This versatility allows for the teaching of various drug administration techniques using a single model.

The advanced version, EZ-R17674, also includes an area dedicated to performing the intradermal tuberculosis test (TB test). This feature expands the simulator’s training capabilities, allowing users to practice intradermal injection techniques as well, which require superficial needle insertion and particularly precise control of the procedure.

The outer skin and artificial veins are easily replaceable, allowing for the replacement of wear-and-tear components and keeping the simulator operational during extended training cycles. This solution is particularly useful in teaching laboratories and healthcare training centers, where the model is used repeatedly by numerous students.

The arm comes with a base equipped with a stand, which facilitates its positioning during exercises. The design allows for individual or small-group practical activities, simulating key venous access and medication administration procedures in a controlled environment.

The Erler Zimmer EZ-R17674 advanced multifunction simulator is suitable for undergraduate nursing and medical programs, healthcare training schools, clinical simulation centers, and hospitals engaged in staff training and continuing education. Thanks to the combination of different routes of administration, a venous network with adjustable pressure, and the ability to perform intradermal tests, it allows users to develop and refine numerous practical skills using a single device.
