This simple prostate examination simulator is used in medical simulation and clinical training to demonstrate and practice digital rectal examination (DRE).

The 3B Scientific prostate exam practice simulator includes 4 different prostates for practicing palpation methods (in the lateral decubitus or genupectoral position) and the diagnostic skills used in rectal exams.

The index finger is inserted into the rectum to palpate the posterior part of the prostate, where most carcinomas are located. The shape, position, and consistency of the prostate are assessed to identify irregularities, indurations, and nodules on its otherwise smooth surface.

The prostate exam practice simulator includes the following stages:

• Normal prostate
• Advanced prostate cancer
• Early-stage prostate cancer
• Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)

For reference and self-correction, the simulator includes the corresponding transrectal ultrasound image for each stage. During use, the prostate and the ultrasound image are not visible to the student.
